Friday Finds

Algonquin sent me a nice hardcover copy of A Reliable Wife- I've seen it around and I'm looking forward to it. Macmillan sent me the very appealing Doghead, which I'm dying to read. It's about a dysfunctional Scandinavian family and I think I'm going to like it a lot. I won Futureproof in a HarperCollins giveaway; it looks really awesome. Finally, I was extremely lucky- and quick to post a comment on a blog- and won a giveaway of a galley of China Mieville's new book, coming out in late May, The City and The City. A local indie bookstore, Brookline Booksmith, had one galley to give out. If you're not familiar with Mieville, he is a British science fiction/urban fantasy writer. My husband, a serious scifi reader, noticed his books for the first time when we were in San Fran this past summer and has become a big fan. He will be reading the book and posting a guest review here when he's done. I can't wait to know what he thinks. I have a feeling that I may end up reading it too! What's your favorite new find this week?

I read two books by Mieville and decided I needed maybe a ten year break before descending into the dystopia again! They're good but dark, dark, dark!

All of these look really good. I am really curios about Doghead and A Reliable Wife, and have read one book by Mieville and loved it. I know I say this a lot, but I can't wait for these reviews!

Looks like a great week for you. I haven't heard of most of these, but they sound interesting. I'm especially interested in your thoughts on Doghead when you get a chance to read it.
