Friday Finds

Two great new books came my way this week.

I received Julie and Julia, Julie Powell's blog-turned-book, which I won in a giveaway at Carolina Gal's Literary Cafe. Thank you Susan! This is definitely one for the beach bag and I can't wait to read it.
I picked up Alia Yunis's The Night Counter as well, a story about several generations of a Muslim family in Lebanon and the United States over a hundred years. It looks wonderful and I'm looking forward to it. Carolyn Turgeon, author of Godmother, says it's "an enchanting debut that winks and glitters like the bangles that line [a character's] arms." Sounds great!

What's going in your beach bag this weekend?

Unfortunately I will not be going to the beach, I will be headed out of state to help clean out my grandparents house... So, I will be retrieving my copy of Pride & Prejudice that I left there and taking my Glamour mag for the car!

The Night Counter sounds great! I enjoyed Julie & Julia, but be forewarned, Julie Powell has quite the potty mouth.

Considering where I live, every book is a beach read!!

My birthday is Sunday, I made it to 50. Hope you two can stop by.

I'm reading the second book in the "No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency" series. It's called "Tears of the Giraffe" and I'm looking forward to tearing through it!

Julie & Julia is on my nightstand right now. I'm finding it entertaining so far, but I'm only about 30 pages in. Someone was giving it away at work, and Serena snagged it and so generously gave it to me first. :)

I read Julie & Julia for my bookclub last year, and I saw the movie on Sunday. For me it was one of the rare movies that is better than the book. The movie has a lot more of Julia Child and less of the self-absorbed aspects of Julie. See the movie after you read the book.
