It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

I finished Osama last week and enjoyed it; I'll review it soon. It's a very unusual, trippy book, not my normal thing but very good.

I'm still working my way through The Goldfinch though I expect to finish in the next couple of days. I have about 100 pages left and I'm loving it, though now I'm really hoping the ending won't let me down. I'll keep you posted!

I also started The Kept, the debut novel by James Scott, who was my writing teacher for a semester a couple of years ago. It's about a woman and her son who go in search of their family's murderers; the woman, Elspeth, is a midwife who returns to the family homestead to find everyone shot to death except for her son. It's very dark and suspenseful so far, not what I was expecting from so delightful a person as James.

I have Ari Shavit's My Promised Land sitting on my nightstand and I'm about to crack into it any day now. While I read a lot of fiction set in Israel, I tend to avoid non-fiction because that country is so polarizing a subject. However I've heard things about this book that make me want to read it, so we'll see.

And you? I hope my American readers have a very Happy Thanksgiving and I'll see you soon. See more It's Monday at BookJourney.wordpress.com.

Oh, I'm so glad that you're loving The Goldfinch. I think it's one of the best books I've read this year!

How lucky you are to have taken writing classes with James before. He and his wife just moved to my area and I 'm getting to know them a little. I *loved* The Kept.

Glad to hear you're loving The Goldfinch, it's one of my favorites, too!

So interesting to hear about your teacher - I'm always surprised when I read a dark novel, go to an event and a bright, cheerful author shows up :)
