I do love what he does with words, so I want to pay attention! How lucky that you were able to see him at the writer's festival; his events are usually sold out here.Buried In Printhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00808249065026802365noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1359999156621466745.post-70100509200456056692011-11-05T14:11:01.628-04:002011-11-05T14:11:01.628-04:00I read The English Patient for a course in college...I read The English Patient for a course in college and didn't love it but I did enjoy the slow, contemplative nature of his writing. I would add this to my list for when I am in the mood for a quiet read.Kathleenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01739982274914536036noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1359999156621466745.post-57357988413916535892011-10-25T16:08:37.801-04:002011-10-25T16:08:37.801-04:00Actually, you have me curious. His book I'm more likely to read is the English Patient because I've it on my shelf.

this particular one sounds like it will take some time for the reader to digest its contents.ImageNationshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06021414643103601330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1359999156621466745.post-80557539663699450552011-10-25T10:08:19.117-04:002011-10-25T10:08:19.117-04:00I have tried a couple of books by Ondaatje, and ha...I have tried a couple of books by Ondaatje, and have not done particularly well with them. I think part of it had to do with the elaborate feel of the writing, and perhaps a bit had to do with the nuance that you so eloquently speak of. I am not sure that I would read this one, even though the synopsis sounds wonderful, as I am just not a huge fan of Ondaatje. Great and very thoughtful review though, Marie!Zibileehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07443338685890187334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1359999156621466745.post-86855602720138247662011-10-25T07:52:12.653-04:002011-10-25T07:52:12.653-04:00I probably won't pick this one up since I stru...I probably won't pick this one up since I struggled with The English Patient. I do think Ondaatje writes beautifully, but the plot often got lost in his words for me.bermudaonionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10726401178972099557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1359999156621466745.post-45672394752456896832011-10-25T06:50:56.764-04:002011-10-25T06:50:56.764-04:00I do like the sound of this one a lot.
