Tuesday Thingers


This week's question: Legacy libraries. With which legacy libraries do you share books? Tell us a little about a couple of them and what you share.

To find which books you share with Legacy Libraries, click on "Statistics" from either your profile or your home page; then click on "Legacy Libraries" in the second row of clickable choices.

My answer: I share a couple of books with a bunch of legacy libraries; I share 3 books with Marie Antoinette, 18 books with poet Sylvia Plath and 8 books with Marilyn Monroe, among others. I also share five books with Tupac Shakur and one with Harry Truman. I like this feature because it's interesting to see what different people in different walks of life liked to read. Tupac Shakur and I share the following:

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou

One Hundred Years of Solitude (P.S.) by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

1984 (Signet Classics) by George Orwell

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

The Dictionary of Cultural Literacy by James Trefil

All in all I think I like his taste in books!

I have another question for you all as well: what other topics would you like me to cover in these questions? I'm happy to take suggestions and give credit (and links) to those who suggest questions I end up using. This is for all of us, after all!

    I am also pretty impressed by Tupac's library and we share 3 books.

    I hadn't looked at Legacy Libraries before, either. I have 3 in common with Tupac Shakur, but more interesting connections with Sylvia Plath:

    Marie, how about a TT question about what *other* forums people frequent (besides ER and ARC Junkies, which we've talked about)

    Or "are you a connector" (to use one of Malcolm Gladwell's terms) ... have you introduced LT to people IRL or online (you had a similar question about friends on LT, but this looks at being an advocate for LT ... maybe too much overlap ...)

    Shana - to see what you have in common with the legacy libraries, you can click on Home, then Statistics, then Legacy Libraries.

    This is another LT feature that I did not know existed! Thanks Marie for pointing it out. It's a bit hard to find the Legacy Library feature. I did find ithere, you do have to search through
    each author. I couldn't figure out a simpler way.

    Marie, this was a great Thinger! I've learned a lot since I started participating.

    I'd love to see what other groups people are involved in, and maybe what they like best about those groups.

    Additionally, I would be curious to see how many of the other posts(links) the other posters visit each week as they participate in different meme's. Do they try to visit all, or 1/2, or how do they determine if they will visit, and if they will leave a comment. (Can you tell I'm relatively new to the blogosphere?)

    This was a really cool question, Marie, I'm looking forward to reading people's answers.

    Unfortunately, my answer is totally boring: I have no shared books with any legacy. I do own some books that are in those libraries, but I only catalogue a book immediately after reading it, and I'm not reading classics these days so unless the legacy is really young, it's unlikely for me to share any.

    Wendy, I read what answers I have time for. Usually it's between 5 and 10, I rarely get to all of them. I try to leave comments where I go.

    I've never participated in this but after looking it up I am fascinated by which books I have in common with legacy library people. I will definitely do this one, albeit it a little late. Great question Marie.

    This was interesting, although I think some of those legacy libraries may be double-counting books. (I'm an accountant; I notice stuff like that :-).)
