Musing Mondays

Here's today's Musing Mondays hosted by Rebecca at Just One More Page. For the full meme and for everyone's responses, click here.

Do you have a system for borrowing out books from the library? Do you know what you're going to borrow before you get there? How often do you borrow out books?

My first Musing Mondays- and it's about my favorite subject, libraries!

I definitely have a system for borrowing- I almost always only borrow books that I'm auditioning for the library I run, and the way it works is
  • I get my copy of the Assocation of Jewish Libraries newsletter, the professional journal I use to keep up with Jewish kids' books, then
  • Read all the reviews and check off the books that seem like they'd be good for the library, then
  • Place interlibrary-loan orders through the internet for everything I'd like to read, and
  • Pick them up at my local branch when they're available.
I love the Cambridge library system, and the folks at my local branch are the best. Seriously. I love those guys!

Sometimes I borrow other kinds of books as well but I'm really more of a book-buyer than I am a book-borrower.

I'm more of a book buyer than borrower too. But libraries are great for test-driving new authors.

I really love to buy books too. But I'm trying to be more selective in my buying, both for space reasons and to save money.

I used to be more of a borrower, but have become more of a buyer.

I am definitely a borrower. I go to my library at least once every 2 weeks. I usually order my books online through the catalog and then go pick them up when they come in. While I'm there I browse the New Fiction section.

I'm definitely a buyer.

I'm more of a buyer but as I discover new books from other book bloggers...and I don't quite want to purchase them I'm going to check them out at the library.

I no longer go to our library. They were always buying books for me and I know no one else will ever read them. Then I would read them and buy my own copy. Our library system is horrible. Beautiful new buildings - lousy selection of books. I grew up living at the library and only about ten years ago gave up on my current one. I almost always want to keep the book to reread or refer back to. Although I am approaching 4,000 books now and I may never get them all read. There is also the fact that I love havin books all around me. Books are my only weakness these days.

I have read a lot of rare and out of print books by ordering from public library stock. But I have encountered long queue for new fiction. So i usually but fiction that I really want to read and leave the not-so-sure ones to the library. Recently I am delighted to discover that as a faculty/staff, I can check out books from campus for up to the whole semester!

I'm more of a book buyer, as I collect first editions, but have on occasion taken a few out of my local library.
