Booking Through Thursday

What book would you love to be able to read again for the first time?

(Interestingly, I thought that I had thought this one up myself, but when I started scrolling through the Suggestions, found that Rebecca had suggested almost exactly this question a couple months ago. So, we both get credit!)

Tough question. I would love to be able to read all my favorites for the first time! The first thing that came to mind was of course Possession (A.S. Byatt), and then East of Eden (Steinbeck); those were both deeply satisfying reading experiences not replicated elsewhere in my reading life. Great Expectations is another I'd love to read again for the first time. Hey- they're classics for a reason, right?

    I've yet to get through GE, but loved East of Eden too.

    For sheer 'blown away' impact on first reading, my choice would have to be...Lord of the Flies, by William Golding - the single most heart-stoppingly, page-turningly dramatic book I read as a teenager. Of course, I'd have to be a teenager again, too!

    Oh yes - East of Eden. That is one of those books I need to reread. :) Sadly, I have never read Possession.

    I first read Little Women when I was 9 and although I still read it once a year, I still remember being shocked and amazed and touched by every point where I should have been shocked, amazed or touched.

    I don't feel that way often with books anymore...I'm more cynical I guess.

    I agree on POSSESSION. I was so bummed when it was over. I also would love to read Tom Robbins' FIERCE INVALIDS HOME FROM HOT CLIMATES again for the first time.

    East of Eden is one of my all-time favorites! I bought Possession at the library book sale last year, but haven't read it yet. Hope to get to it soon!

    Books that have surprise ending or a twist would be refreshing to me. I also read my favorite books, like Name of the Rose and The Master and Margarita.

    Interesting how many of the bloggers' selections are classics.

    I have not read any of these books but I actually looked at East of Eden in my mothers bookshelf just the other day(I recall it as more than one book??). I will read it sometime.

    The Master by Colm Toibin, a beautiful novel in which Toibin imagines Henry James's life in England. And what a great idea, to think about having a favorite book still ahead of you to discover.

    I don't participate so I will just answer the question. I would love to Read, The Great Gatsby. That one was my favorite. Hearing what your favorite it I will try East of Eden too.

    Possession is one of my favorites. Great choice. Just ordered a special copy from The Folio Society, and am awaiting my copy of the new A.S. Byatt as well.
