Sunday Salon - Post Thanksgiving
So I hope that those of you who celebrated this week had a great Thanksgiving; mine was pretty nice. My husband and I went to his parents' house for dinner and that was only the beginning of the weekend's festivities. His aunt and uncle came up from New York along with their daughter on Friday. We went out shopping with them on Friday afternoon and then on Saturday morning he and I hosted our annual post-Thanksgiving, kick-off-the-Christmas-season brunch, which is what you see pictured above. I baked pumpkin muffins, a sour cream coffee cake, cranberry cornbread and currant scones- two days of baking, consumed in about two hours! (Not to mention the cheesecake I made for Thanksgiving itself!) Actually we had fewer people than usual this year and there were a lot of leftovers. We hit the mall for more shopping yesterday, although except for a couple of new Christmas pins it was mostly browsing for me. We visited with folks again this morning before they drove back to NYC, and now we're home.
And when I say we're home, I mean home- as soon as I got back I changed into clean pajamas and plan to spend the day getting caught up online and reading. I might take a walk later- but later! For now I'm still working my way through Wolf Hall. I'm also about half way through The Red Leather Diary, by Lily Koppel, which is an interesting book to say the least. Not sure I'm in love with it but it has its merits. More later!
Was your holiday weekend busy or laid back? What are you doing to relax or catch up? Whatever it is I hope you enjoy the day.

Your plans for today sound so nice. Thanks for the holiday post. Interested in hearing your thoughts on your current reads!
Sounds like you had a great holiday! I'm Canadian, so mine was more than a month ago...
I am curious to hear how you are enjoying Wolf Hall - I might read that next, after I finish Fall by Colin McAdam.
Sounds like a lovely holiday. We did the turkey to-do twice - once on the holiday and then again yesterday with the other side of the family. Now I am lying about in something approximating a food coma. Nothing but pjs, leftovers and The Song Is You for today. Hope to make it to my copy of Wolf Hall soon. Happy reading!
I love leftovers! And what fun to spend the day in pjs! I am supposed to be doing Thankfully Reading, but I have never been so waylaid by this and that! I plan to retire to the couch soon and continue reading The Help.
Glad to hear I am not the only one having a bit of a pajama day after the busy holiday!
We had a great Thanksgiving. Carl and Vance were home all week and our nephew was here for the weekend. I've been doing laundry, vacuuming, etc, since Vance and our nephew left. My reading really took a hit last week, but we had a great time!
hmmm...wish I had a slice of the coffeecake.
Sounds like you had a nice time, but no matter how nice a time, it is nice to get home, isn't it, put on your PJs, put your feet up with a nice book...
I love your kick-off-the-Christmas-season brunch idea. My weekend has been a good mix of busy and relaxing. Very enjoyable.
On another note, I read The Leather Diary about a year ago and really enjoyed it. I loved the story and I especially loved how the book itself came to be written. The best part, though, was that the diary's author was still alive and was able to comment. I'm anxious to hear your thoughts.
I started reading Wolf Hall...then put it aside. I had another pressing read I needed to get to. What do you think of Wolf Hall. I liked what I had read so far. Now I will probably have to re-read it.
My cousin came and spent the weekend with me.
He left this morning and I have been relaxing all day. Except for doing lesson plans. LOL
Wisteria, Mynovereviews- I'm enjoying Wolf Hall but it's definitely a slow read for me. Very detailed, very deliberate- and very satisfying, so far. I'm about 3/4 of the way through. Another week or two, and I should be finished! :-)
Love the brunch tradition, and your spread looks delicious! I'm still at the top of the library hold list for Wolf Hall. Looking forward to getting started. I really liked The Red Leather Diary and will look forward to your thoughts - such an unusual book!
Your Thanksgiving/weekend sounded very nice. The desserts look yummy.
BTW: I can't wait to read your thoughts on WOLF HALL. I have so many reviews to write--it is pathetic.
Your Thanksgiving sounds lovely. I'm glad you had a nice one.
I think your table full of desserts looks delicious! Hope you had a lovely Sunday.

Mmmmmmmmmm . . . .bunt cake! You have inspired me.
Hubby and I were alone for the first time this year. More turkey for us! And I had time to put up the tree over the weekend, which is a luxury I don't get when we go out of town for T-day weekend.
Glad you had a good weekend.
Glad you had a great Thanksgiving. I like the post-Thanksgiving breakfast idea. Looks yummy :)
What a beautiful spread. I also read Red Leather Diary. Liked it overall but towards the end, her behavior was a bit much for me. A little too self centered.
Glad that you had such a nice Thanksgiving! Your table looks beautiful as well.
I am glad you had such a nice Thanksgiving, Marie! I had a very nice Thanksgiving weekend. Got some Christmas shopping done and managed to get in a lot of reading. I hope you have a good weekend!
