Do you read the inside flaps that describe a book before or while reading it?
I skim the inside flaps before I decide to buy a book; I might reread it once I start to get myself situated. But, since most of the books I buy and read are paperbacks, my books rarely have flaps to flap!

ReplyDeleteI usually already know most of what I need to know about a book before I get a chance to look at its flap. But, yeah, paperbacks can be a problem!
ReplyDeleteI buy used a lot of old hardbacks that have no cover whatsoever- no flap, no blurbs on the back- nothing! It's really flying blind to jump into one of those.
ReplyDeleteBut when there's flaps, I read 'em unless I think they might give too much away.
I'm more of a paperback girl too! I love the fancier trade paperbacks w/ flaps. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm with you on the skimming. Also, most of the books I have are ones I've heard of online, either through blogs or from review requests and ARC places, so I've already read a description of them.
ReplyDeleteActually, I usually use the flaps for bookmarks if the book has them. Is that book-abuse?
I usually buy paperbacks, too - trade, not mass market, but that's a whole other story. I usually don't read the flaps because I don't want to know too much.

ReplyDeleteMost looks that i buy used...which is a lot....are hardcover, but as I think about it, no, I am not a great flap reader. It is not so much that they tell too much as that they often seem to put an odd spin on the story.

I don't read the flap until I am finished with the book. I like to be surprised by my reads, and sometimes reading the flap beforehand ruins all sorts of things for me.
