Sunday Salon - My New Desk!

Well, as I'm sure you could tell by the fabulous quality of my blog posts last week- no reviews, a couple of days skipped, memes aplenty- I was sort of lacking in focus. My husband has had the flu since Tuesday so I've been pretty preoccupied. He's feeling better but it's been a long week. Luckily the house was stocked with food so when I had to go to the store 2-3 times every day it was only for little things. In the meantime not a lot else got done, except work and TV.

But today is a new day so let's see. As I mentioned on Friday, I've dropped my no-new-books-till-Lent thing. And really, given my personality how realistic was that? Not very. Couple that with the upcoming release of a new novel by one of my favorite authors and let's face it- it wasn't going to happen. Midweek last week I needed some time to kick back a little and what did I do? I went to a bookstore. Two, actually. And I shopped. Two books for me, one for my husband to read while he was sick, and a couple of DVDs while I was at it. So much for Lent.

In between fetching water, soup, crackers and more soup and more crackers, I worked and I continued to tidy up the new office. See? That's my desk above. It's Leksvik desk from IKEA- simple and traditional. The pencil cup, ruler and mug are all things I painted during my decorative-painting phase; I was never any good at it but I enjoyed it for a while. The coasters were a gift from a friend who made them.

Here's my bookshelf, beginning to get filled up with signed books. I could write a whole blog post about the books; each one has a story behind it.

Sometimes the story is, "I went to the bookstore and bought a signed copy off a pile," or "I ordered it online from the author who personalized it," but sometimes the story is better.

My cat is also enjoying the new shelf, as you can see below. It's important that he enjoy the furnishings.

What are you enjoying this Sunday? I hope you all are having a great day.

  7. Sorry to see that your hubby's been under the weather. I know that's kept you pretty busy. Do write a post about your autographed books!

I'll be spending the day helping my son get his stuff together to go back to school, watching basketball and cleaning up after my son leaves.

  8. Oh, your desk is so tidy! Love the mug and the screen background on the computer. Bookshelves for signed copies...that's a great idea!

I have mine in a stack with some other books that I'm undecided about. Books I've read but not necessarily going to keep. I'd better separate the signed copies from those, huh?

Love the cat curling up on the shelf.

  9. I had that exact same bookshelf, but I had to get rid of it because it was starting to fall apart. That was a sad day -- I love the way it folds up so it's easy to move. I hope your week improves!

  10. Beautiful desk. Things you decorate yourself seem more special somehow, whatever you think about the quality of the results (and I think they are lovely.)

Don't berate yourself for failing to adhere to your Lent vows....We all fall short. Besides, what were you thinking?! No books until the end of Lent?! Impossible.

  11. So what are the books and DVDs that you picked up? Tell us already. :)

Also what are you reading today as that is supposed to what this Sunday Salon "thing" is all about? Again :). (Sorry, last week, I had to chastise Florinda over at The 3 R's for losing track of the original reason for The Sunday Salon: sharing about what you're reading, and now it's your turn, lady.)

And ooh, nice desk too. :)

  14. Loved seeing your desk and bookshelf. Yes, indeed, every book has a story behind it (some more interesting than others). I love the idea of showing where you spend so much time dealing with the books and creative chaos in your life. I may have to post a desk shot too. And the cat...what a cutie! What is it with cats and books? You see a cat in every used bookstore I've ever been in...usually lounging around on the bookshelves, or sleeping in the window.

  15. What a handsome beastie!! And the decorative-painted items are stunning. I call shenanigans on the idea that you aren't any good at it.

  16. I don't think I have very many signed books... in fact, I think it's limited to one book I got as a gift as a child. It'd be fascinating to hear the stories behind them.

  17. Oh oh, if you keep going at that pace your kitty might have to find another resting place! :)

  18. Dear unfinished, I bought WISH HER SAFE AT HOME and CITIES OF SALT for me, and a book from the DRESDEN FILES series for Jeff. The DVDs were BluRay versions of SUPERMAN and THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN, two of my husband's favorites. I'm finishing up MAJOR PETTIGREW'S LAST STAND today. :-) Satisfied? :-)
