I'm so excited! My paperback reading copy of Jane Eyre is pretty beat up; I got it when I was a teenager, when I first had to read it for English class, and it's got all my notes and annotations, all my dog-eared pages and food spills. I tried to pick it up the other day and pages fell out. I decided it was time for a new copy.
As some of you may remember, I collect vintage copies of Jane Eyre but I don't want to read any of my "good" copies- some of them are not in great shape, either!
Laura hasn't set a schedule for the read-a-long so I'm going to just settle in and take my time with it- maybe a few chapters here and there, and we'll see how it goes! There are 38 chapters in the book so divided over 28 days of February, two chapters a day is more than enough to finish, even with some slacking. Are you going to join in? If you're reading it for the first time or the fifteenth, I hope you do!
ooh, you collect copies of Jane Eyre, that is so cool! I just have my one copy of it, but I'm gonna crack it open soon! So excited.
ReplyDeleteI read Jane Eyre just once and it was such a long time ago. I am tempted but have so many books to read. I guess I'll do as you do, reading one or two (or more) chapters between others books and see if it goes. I don't usually like reading two books at the same time !
ReplyDeleteMy classic a month project is going pretty well, but then it's only the end of January! I was planning on reading A Tale of Two Cities this month, and Jane Eyre next month, but now that I see there is a readalong for February, I am going to switch that around and join you! I am probably not going to be parceling it out, but reading at all at one time, but I think that's ok! It will be so good to share this with others! Thanks for posting this, Marie!

ReplyDeleteThe library I work for has that same vintage copy of Jane Eyre in it's collection. I read that very book several years ago. It was a pleasure to read that copy. And I LOVED the book!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! I wish I had time to reread it now but am slammed with review copies of books I owe for some upcoming tours. I think it has been almost 17 years since I last read it. I say that because I remember reading it last when I was pregnant with my son!

I'm sure you're aware the film of Jane Eyre will be (re)released soon. It looks incredible! It will always be a great disappointment to me that I saw the film on PBS, worthy as it was, before I read the novel. All the surprises were completely spoilt, and I never do that to myself!
