As usual, I added to my TBR pile this week. I also weeded a ton of books- more than I bought or will replace any time soon, so that makes it OK, right?
Alma Rose, by Edith Forbes, is a lesbian love story set in the plains of the West. I saw it at a used bookstore and the title got stuck in my head, so I decided to buy it. It's got some great reviews- Ursula Le Guin called it "a treasure" and if it's good enough for her it's good enough for me.
Mother's Milk is a Booker-nominated novel by Edward St. Aubyn, who has a new book out now called At Last. He's gotten incredible raves as a writer, particularly a very flattering piece by Francine Prose in a recent New York Times book review. So I decided to try him out.
Penguin Lost came from the great Back Pages Books in Waltham, after an event with the book's author Andrey Kurkov. I can't wait to get to the next chapter in Kurkov's absurdist crime series about a forlorn journalist and his pet penguin Misha.
That's it! I'm really excited about all my new books. What's new on your shelf this week? See more Finds at ShouldbeReading.wordpress.com.
I'm planning to read the Edward St. Aubyn this year too. I, too, was inspired by the NYT piece. I hope it's good!
ReplyDeleteYou just triggered a trip down memory lane. I used to live in Waltham!
ReplyDeleteI've done some adding, now I need to do some weeding. Enjoy your new books!
ReplyDeleteThese look like great books, and I am so glad that you got the chance to add these to your collection!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm curious about Alma Rose!
ReplyDeleteBefore I get rid of another book from my stack, I want to read it first! ;-)Have a good weekend.
I love your reasons for getting your books. I've not purchased a single book in 2012 though I've received one.
ReplyDeleteIf you can weed out books while buying more you are doing good! I just keep buying them and don't seem to get rid of any.
