I'm a passionate reader, reviewer and once and future librarian and bookseller. I've worked in a variety of independent bookstores in the Boston and New York City area and worked or volunteered at synagogues and related institutions in both Boston and New York.
My blog has been blurbed in the paperbacks of The City and The City by China MiƩville and Baba Dunja's Last Love, by Alina Bronsky. My interview with author Chandler Burr was published in the paperback of his novel You or Someone Like You.
I read adult literary fiction, memoir and narrative nonfiction with a particular interest in literature in translation, small presses, literary prizes and Jewish fiction and nonfiction. I like to post about travel, NYC life and movies too.
My hobbies include playing piano, quilting and studying languages. I'm currently obsessed with Yiddish. I have a sewing blog at sewverywrongmarie.blogspot.com.
I have been blogging under this moniker on and off since 2007. I took an extended hiatus from late 2019 to mid 2022. I mostly write via Substack these days, which you can subscribe to at: https://bostonbibliophile.substack.com for a slightly different mix of content.
I also have an author website at www.mariecloutier.com where you can see what I'm publishing. I'm writing a memoir too.
I don't know what I will or won't post here but thanks for visiting.
I am not accepting review requests at this time.
