Booking Through Thursday

btt button

In the perfect follow-up to last week’s question, as suggested by C in DC:

Is there a book that you wish you could “unread”? One that you disliked so thoroughly you wish you could just forget that you ever read it?

There are certainly plenty of books that I've disliked, but honestly, it's probably impossible for me to answer that question because I probably have forgotten about them already! Not to sound like a total nerd, but I'm glad that I've read everything that I've read, even the books I hated. There's something to be learned from even the worst book- even if it's just that I never want to read a certain author again, or a certain genre. So, no!

Oh, how lucky! I wish I could forget reading The Gun Runner's Daughter.

I think it may be just a matter of knowing what books are out there and knowing yourself as a reader. That's not to say you won't still encounter a stinker now and then, but at least they won't be so horrid you'll be grabbing for the mental bleach.

Absolutely!!! I wouldn't want to forget anything I read either because I've learned something from each of them even if it's the author name I have to stay away from :)

I totally agree with you. There is always something to learn from every book I read too. Great post! Happy BTT.

My answer is quite similar to yours. I figure even if I didn't like a book, at least I know that I don't like that type and I won't bother again.

That's what I thought about forgetting.. then I remembered the one that I picked :)

My answer is very much the same as yours. If a book's no good I forget it very quickly anyway.

No there isn't. I might wish to have the time back that I spent on it. Even the worst book could have a little lesson in it or a turn of phrase that is sublime.

The two books I mentioned were not books I really wished I had not read. However, they were terrible in my opinion and a waste of my time. There have been some non-fiction books that I can honestly say I wish I could unread, but I did not list the names of those.www.thesocialfrog.com

Even the worst book might not be a total waste.

I haven't encountered something that is irredeemably bad. Books that I want to "unread" are ones written by authors whose previous reads I have enjoyed. Sometimes they just have a bad day I guess. I would like to defy time and start over again with another book.

It would have to be any thing and everything Harry Potter. From the over priced books to the sewer of fan fiction. I knew better and stayed away from Twilight, The House of Night and every other tween vampire and wizard series out there.
