What's My Defining Post?

In my virtual travels around the blogosphere, I came across this post at Conversion Diary, (via Happy Catholic) in which blogger Jennifer challenges her readers to come up with a "defining post," a post that sums up your blog. Like, if someone asked you about your blog, what post would send them to show them what you do and what you're about?

What an interesting opportunity, to highlight something that represents me as a reader, a blogger, maybe even- dare I say it- as a writer.

I'm going to pick a book review, specifically my review of Abraham Verghese's wonderful Cutting for Stone, because it was a review I enjoyed writing and a book I absolutely loved- so I think it is a great representation of my blog.

Jennifer is keeping her Mr. Linky list open until Wednesday so if you want to participate, go on over!

It was a beautiful review. It's a wonderful choice to represent you!

I'm not sure I can come up with a single defining post. There are a few that I consider pretty well-written. That's because I don't think I've had anything that's really a stroke of genius. I did come up with five of what I think of as fairly good SF book reviews for my BBAW nomination. But cutting that down to one would be tough.

Nor is there anything I would really call particularly indicative of what I do. I'm pretty all over the map as far as content and quality, so it's pretty hard to say "this is would you can expect from my writing generally speaking."

I'll have to think about it though.

I missed the Abraham Verghese review back when, but I've now added the book to my wish list. (If only my library weren't completely closed for a week, I could add it to my hold list there.)

What an interesting meme. I think I'm in the same boat as King Rat. I have some posts that are definitely better than others, but what I write about varies from post to post, and the ones that I probably put the most of myself into (probable the homeless Harvard dude rant, and my Ted Kennedy goodbye) are probably the least relevant to most of the posts I make.

But now I want to think about this and pick one. Hmm. Thanks for posting.

I never seem to post real reviews on my blog. I read so many books every year that I was afraid it would get tedious. Instead, I post them all at my other blog. My other blog is just reviews.

Maybe next year I can integrate the two.

I remember reading that post and thinking that you made the book sound irresistible to me. I think that is a great representative choice for you to have picked.

Space Station- thanks for stopping by! I tried to leave a comment on your latest post but you have commenting restricted so I can't. But I love Madeleine L'Engle too and thought you wrote a great review of her memoir.

Your review of Cutting for Stone was amazing! I feel like lately the books and TV that have been sucking me in are all about medicine. (Perhaps I chose the wrong profession?!)

It's also ironic that you talk about "defining posts" because lately all I've been thinking about are a handful of defining moments in my life thus far.

Wow. I am not sure what I would choose as my "defining post". I am much too all over the place I suppose. I will have to give this one some thought. Maybe I can have a top three?
