Sunday Salon

So I'm very excited today because I'm finally going to get around to reading Kathleen Kent's new book, The Heretic's Daughter. I've had the galley for
several months now, but between one thing and the other it's just been sitting on my TBR shelf. As a Salem, Mass., native and someone with a lifelong interest in the Salem witch trials I'm very interested in this one, which has received a great deal of positive buzz, both on the blogosphere and elsewhere.

Have you reviewed it? I would love to know.

I'm also getting a small load of books ready to go up on Bookmooch, and of course today is Sunday so that means work. Since the Jewish High Holy Days are coming up (Erev Rosh Hashanah is Monday) I'll be reading creation stories to the little ones. Some favorites are Big Momma Makes the World by Phyllis Root and Light, by Jane Breskin Zalben. There are others too- lots of good ones. Last Tuesday the 3rd graders made me a challah after storytime and brought it into the library in a very dramatic fashion, all in a row with the girl in front carrying it above her head and shouting "Librarian!! We made you a challah!!" as they all came in. So cute! Shana tova to my Jewish readers and I hope everyone has a great Sunday.

I also know the author reads the blog rolls, so you will probably hear from her.
Enjoy the holiday and of course...

Marie, I look forward to hearing what you think of the book. I have it in my TBR pile as well.

Thank you for the "I Heart You" Award! I'll have to pass on the good karma and get to it. I've been running around getting gifts because four more days and I'll be on the flight to Hong Kong for my sister's wedding. I need to catch up on my blog reading. :)

Enjoy your Sunda!

I started The Heretic's Daughter, and it's very good. I switched books because I wasn't in the mood for historical fiction, but I will definitely go back.

The author, I believe, is a 10th generation descendant of Martha Carrier, who was actually one of the women accused and is the main character in the book.

I look forward to reading your thoughts on the book!

Mmmm.... challah!

I got my copy of The Heretic's Daughter in the mail last week, but there's a bunch of other things on my stack to read first... which is kind of a shame, because it looks really great.

I really enjoyed The Heretic's Daughter. How interesting that you're a native of Salem! Have you read The Lace Reader? - also set in Salem.
