Musing Mondays

How does your being sick (or injured) affect your reading? Do you read more? Less? Do you pick out a different book than you had already planned? Do you have a "comfort book" that makes you feel better?

Depends if I'm sick or injured. If I'm sick, I'm usually too out of it to read- I usually just want to sleep, or watch TV. If I'm injured that's a different story. Two summers ago I sprained my ankle and was totally off my feet for a few days, then had to keep walking to a minimum for another six weeks. During that time I read quite a bit! As far as what I read, I'll read whatever's on hand, whatever I was already reading. I don't have a comfort book but I think that's a nice idea!

I agree, if i'm sick, i'm not feeling well enough to read. I'd rather sleep or watch tv.

If it's just a cold, I love to read, but if I'm anymore sick than that, all I want to do is sleep.

When I broke my foot running I rode my stationary bike every day with a book. Now that I have fibromyalgia and am unable to work I read as much as possible. On the really bad days I just stare at the television. On the better days I squeeze reading in between everything else.

Reading is lifeblood. When I was in high school I would read five books a week over and above schoolwork.

When I'm sick I'm likely to reread old favorites for the comfort. Old British children's books (Frances Hodgson Burnett or the Green Knowe books) or Sir Peter Wimsey mysteries are usually a good bet. They're cozy, like metaphorical fuzzy blankets.

Yeah, being sick makes me so out of it and it's not really fun to try and concentrate too much on a book. Movies and TV are the way to be then!!
