Booking Through Thursday

I recently got new bookshelves for my room, and I’m just loving them. Spent the afternoon putting up my books and sharing it on my blog . One of my friends asked a question and I thought it would be a great BTT question. So from Tina & myself, we’d like to know “How do you arrange your books on your shelves? Is it by author, by genre, or you just put it where it falls on?”

Like some of you, my bookshelves were better organized before I had mountains of TBRs- before Bookmooch and reviewing and librarianship in other words! I have one main bookcase in the house, and I've organized it roughly by genre- fiction, nonfiction, French books, manga, graphic novels and reference, including one shelf just for dictionaries and language-learning books. There is also a separate shelf for books about Russia. The other bookshelves- the shelf in the den and the shelf in the bedroom- are a jumble of TBRs and have-reads. When I'm done with a book, it goes on the main shelf in the "correct" place and I basically know where to find any book in the house, even if the right answer is something like "in that pile next to the couch".

Yeah, that sounds about right! Mine is similar! Much to my partner's dismay. Good thing I have my own library in addition to our shared ones.

I have my book cases set up much like you do. I have a main one in my den, along with another one in there for TBRs.

I have a tall bookcase in my bedroom, with many of my prized Judaism books, whether it be authors, or the book, itself.

I have a small book case in my living room for important photographic books, and important poetry books.

On and on it goes...

Most of the books I'm done with are being loaned out to other people.

What an odd question... I just know that I never seem to have any space for my books. It's weird like that.

I do tend to organize my boks by author and genre. And like you, I tend to keep my TBR's seperate.

I once organized sort of by genre..I gave up on that when I ran out of space on the shelves..the newly expanded shelves. Considering where I can but more bookcases now..do I really need a dining room?

I'm pretty organized (so far) but even if I weren't, I'd know where every book would be, too! :D

I shelf my books by author's last name in alphabetical order. For fiction and literature, I single out the ones to be re-read and put them on a different case.

I try to control the size of my TBR pile by not checking out any books and buying books. I leave books on the acquisition list unless I really dig a particular book.

I use library thing, and I file my books by Dewey system. My fiction books are alphabetical by author. I have a special shelf for people like Anne McCaffery, and a special shelf for books about King Arthur and the Grail Legends.
