Musing Mondays

How often do you visit the library? Do you have a scheduled library day/time, or do you go whenever? Do you go alone, or take people with you?

I'm a librarian, so I spend a lot of time in libraries! As far as personal visits, I'm a little embarrassed to admit I don't go to my public library all that often. The main branch of my city's library is being housed in a school as the city completes renovations on the original building (and the temporary location may even be closed at this stage) and it's not really a comfortable place to hang out right now. My neighborhood branch, located about a block from my house, is likewise small and sometimes I feel self-conscious about spending too much time there because I'm an introvert and can't hide anywhere. :-) The staff there are really nice though and when I go in to pick up interlibrary loans it's always fun to say hi.

Musing Mondays is hosted at Just One More Page.

the people at my small branch seem too busy talking to each other to even notice me. I could spend the day...if I had the time...or needed the books, which I do not.

I don't blame you about not going very often. I love my local library because it's friendly, the atmosphere is great, they know me by name, and they're just up the street. Have a good week!

I hadn't been going to the library as often as I would like. My New Year resolution was to spend more time there. My son and I got once every two weeks now. I have plenty to read, but we like browsing about and seeing if there is anything new.

I spend the most time on my library's website. The Los Angeles County Library system has an amazing website. I can check their inventory for books, place a hold, have the book sent to my local branch, download an audiobook, order a music cd, read newspaper articles, etc. And I can do this in my PJ's after everyone's asleep and the library is closed! They send me an email when my book has arrived, I walk into the branch to the hold shelf, pick up the books, check them out and I'm done. Of course I have to spend some time browsing when I pick up the books, and I always finds something of interest!

bookfool, Cambridge's library system allows us to do all those things from home too. it's amazing what libraries have to offer! :-)

Most people would like to go to the library more often than they actually do. It's a problem I'm afraid most readers deal with...
