Booking Through Thursday

Mariel suggested this week’s question

Book Gluttony! Are your eyes bigger than your book belly? Do you have a habit of buying up books far quicker than you could possibly read them? Have you had to curb your book buying habits until you can catch up with yourself? Or are you a controlled buyer, only purchasing books when you have run out of things to read?

What a question. My eyes are definitely bigger than my stomach when it comes to books. I have a huge backlog of TBRs and I have not curbed my book-acquiring at all- if anything, I've gotten "worse". Books come to me, as to many of you, through several sources- buying new, buying used, trading, review requests or review solicitations and professional resources- so, at least in the short term, I don't expect to run out or even catch up any time soon. I love books, and I love reading, and I can't imagine losing interest in literature old and new. I just wouldn't be the same person!

My pile of unread books was around 750 a few months ago. In the last month almost another 100.

I have a tendency to bring home books from my library at school in bundles, only to bring more home later. I never end up reading the books I brought home previously. By eyes are definitely bigger, but it feels to wonderful to have stories so close, I don't mind.

I have a huge number of books in my house, but I keep acquiring them too. I love having books everywhere!

I don't count but my TBR pile, which isn't actually a pile, the TBRs are spread around the bookshelves. It changes daily.

I have a lot of sources too! I can sometimes control book buying, but only by taking books out of the library, which doesn't lessen the TBR numbers. And review copies are still coming in, so it all just adds up. Not that I mind! =)

I believe every book has its moment with an individual reader, and that is why I have to keep buying them in case I have a whim for that particular book.

Proud to be a glutton, but I try not to buy. I grab the ones that I'm most desperate to read and leave the rest on a list.

I am also in your same camp. My stomach is definately bigger than my stomach. Even today. I went to Sam's Club and intended to buy 3 books. But for the first time. I said why am I buying these, when I have so many at home. I am compulsive when it comes to books. My son says it is taking over the house. I never had so many books before. I have more now since bloggging. Even when I go to the library I get books. Most of the time I don't even get to them. But, what are you going to do.

Don't feel bad, the rest of us don't. Books are my "drug of choice". :)

I'm like you - lots of unread books awaiting my attention. But I don't think that's bad! Books are patient and very often, I am instinctually drawn to an unread book and it will turn out to be the PERFECT book at the PERFECT moment.

I'm trying really hard not to buy any new books till I've worked through the unread ones of my shelf... but it's not easy. Particularly as there are so many books I really want to read.
