Just two finds this Friday!
Just as well, since my TBR pile is out of control
and I really don't understand adding piles more books every week.
I got My Name is Red, by Orhan Pamuk, at the Boston Book Festival; I told myself I wouldn't buy any books at the festival but this book was already on my wish list and I was really, really good about not buying extra stuff there.
Natasha's Dance: A Cultural History of Russia, by Orlando Figes, came from the sale table at a local library. This library has a beautiful selection of used books and I was excited to get this one because I have another book by Figes in the TBR pile, on life under Stalinist Russia, and this one too has received great reviews and should be perfect for a Russophile like me.
What about you?

the most difficult disease to treat is bibliophile. why? because every medical practitioner is in one way or another infected.
sometimes my money would run out (and since we don't practice the credit card system in Ghana, you have to depend on your debit card) and I would still be buying books. So I set a limit to say 50 Ghana Cedis (approx...33 US dollars) every month. But just last two days I spend 68 GHC (or 45 US dollars). I can't walk into a bookshop and not buy anything. Hmmmm this disease!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you know Orhan Pamuk has been doing a lecture series at Harvard? It's free, open to public, and the final one is this Tuesday at 4 at Sanders Theater.
Great finds! I have Natasha' Dance waiting on my shelf (it looks wonderful) and Pamuk is an author I really want to read. Enjoy your books!
Ah, My Name is Red is great. I hope you enjoy it!
They both look good to me, but then, you always find great looking books!
Two good books. Wish I could have been at the Boston book fair, but then am glad I didn't spend the money I would have if I'd been there! Must try Orhan Pamuk
I really liked My Name Is Red!
Friday Find: Death of a River Guide by Richard Flanagan
I was really unimpressed by Natasha's Dance. It got good reviews, but I found it appallingly organized and really boring. And really, there was no excuse for that book to be boring. I think it took me about 3 months to get halfway through it, and then I finally returned it to the library.
I on the other hand love adding books onto To Be Read bookcase, even though I am about to run out of space. Here's my Friday Finds. As you'll see, I went for Alias Grace. :)

I've wanted to read any of Pamuk's books for the longest time but I just don't see anybody reviewing it and don't know if they're good or not.
I think everyone's TBR piles have gotten out of control lately, but there's just been so many good book releases recently!
Congrats on only buying one book at the Book Festival! Not sure I would have had the will power! *L*
Happy reading!
I just found a beautiful hardcover of My Name is Red at a booksale last week for $1.00. I was thrilled
Those look very interesting.
My Finds are HERE
Both of these look very good. I have been wanting to add My Name is Red to my collection for a long while now, so I am hoping that you really like it.
