What Else? Friday Finds
Three great finds this week.
Ann Kingman of the Books on the Nightstand podcast recommended David Grossman's To The End of the Land, his new novel, so heartily that I had to get it right away. That, and I'm a huge Grossman fan from his earlier book Someone to Run With.
Her colleague and BotN partner in crime Michael Kindness was equally enthusiastic about Richard Harvell's new novel The Bells so that found its way into my shopping bag this week as well.
Finally, I finally picked up Kazuo Ishiguro's book of short stories, Nocturnes, out in paperback now. I'm a huge fan of his from his wonderful books The Remains of the Day (which won the Booker Prize) and Never Let Me Go, about to be released as a feature film.
So many good books!

I liked one of Ishigura's books and did not like the next I went to! I like the sound of The Bells and the Grossland book cover is very nice!
New books every day. Thanks BB
Great finds! I'm really looking forward to reading To The End of the Land, though I'm rather far down right now on the library's hold list.
I've read several great reviews of The Bells, so understand why you bought that one. Enjoy!
Interesting finds - especially The Bells. I'll have to give that one a closer look. I've got most of Ishiguro's work on my TBR list, and hope to finally get around to some of it this fall.
Just finished Never Let Me Go (wanted to read it before going to see the film). Could barely put it down. so so good.
I added The Bells to my Borders wishlist after reading a review for it earlier this week.
The cover of the Grossman book is so beautiful! Enjoy your books!
To the End of the Land is great. Heavy and not at all easy to read, but very good if you fight on through. I have to say, though, that I absolutely hate the cover. So bland, so empty, so meaningless - not at all on par with the wonderful content of the book.
As for Nocturnes, I quite like the paperback cover (a lot more than the British edition or the hardcover). The book itself is okay - I also really liked The Remains of the Day, but after reading Nocturnes in one sitting last week, I'm a little disappointed. It's a nice book, but it's still a collection of short stories. Some are really good, others... less so. I wonder what you'll think of it.
I agree with Biblio - Nocturnes had some good stories and some so-so stories. I enjoyed reading it but nothing really stuck with me.
I look forward to your review.

I bought Nocturnes last year, for my own Japanese Literature Challenge, and I still haven't read it! Want to, though, as soon as I get the chance. ;)
