So every Sunday I say I'm going to relax but it almost never happens. This Sunday? I'm going to relax! Maybe. There's nothing in particular on the calendar, and my husband is just home from a half a week away, so we might just end up spending most of the day at home. I've been struggling with some insomnia lately and I definitely need my sleep!
I'm reading a couple of things right now. I just read The Age of Miracles, a Random House book coming out next June. It was good. It's a coming of age story about a 13 year old girl struggling with a global catastrophe; the Earth's rotation has slowed. I don't know if I can review it here for a while but keep an eye out for galleys if you're a blogger. The reps think this will be a big book next year and I can easily see why. Now I'm reading another 2012 release, The Flight of Gemma Hardy, by Margot Livesey. This one is from HarperCollins and it's a retelling of Jane Eyre set in Scotland. I'm enjoying it so far! It seems like 2012 is going to bring some great reads. I'm also reading Good Offices by Evelio Rosario, a short novel set in a church in Colombia, published by New Directions. The regular priest and his assistant have gone for the night and left a different priest in place; their departure and the appearance of the new priest create some disruptions. Over the course of the night, secrets are revealed and truths confronted. It's a wonderful book so far.
What else? I'm participating in the 2011 Persephone Secret Santa and will be spending part of today putting together a little package for my giftee. I love doing a book swap and the Persephone swap is my favorite because I love their books and it's a fun way to meet like-minded bloggers and support a great small press. Maybe the Europa Challenge should do a Europa swap? Hmm. I'll have to think on that for next year! The Persephone swap is hosted by Claire and Verity.
That's it for me! Time to go curl up with some tea and a book. What are you reading or doing today? Have a great Sunday! More Sunday Salon here.

I will keep my eyes open for this Age of Miracles book. I'm drawn to these types of plots, and prefer to go through the catastrophes with non-adults. I know I'm weird. I don't blame you for staying home. I love being a couch potato now and again.
Last year I participated in a book blogger holiday swap event but missed the deadline for this year. :( So I'm a bit disappointed that I won't be getting something ready today too along with you.
As for what I'm doing today, there might be some reading, but mostly football: fantasy football with some online friends. That's how most of my Sundays are spent during the NFL season.
I hope you do get the chance to rest and relax today!
I always say that my Saturdays and Sundays are going to be nothing but sitting and reading, and then life steps in and totally puts the kibosh on that! I have dealt with insomnia before as well, and I know how frustrating it can be. You might want to try some Sleepy Time tea, or some hot mils with vanilla before bed. It doesn't always work, but it is better than having to take something that is less natural. It sounds like you are reading lots of great books right about now, and I am eager for them to become available to me too! Have a great and relaxing Sunday, Marie!
The Age of Miracles sound interesting! I can't wait to get my hands on that one. Today I'm hoping to write two reviews and do some more reading. Have a great day.
Hope you get to stay home and relax all day... that's exactly what I plan to do, too!
Ooh, a Europa swap is a lovely idea! I just finished French Leave last night. And after the book ended, I just stared at the cover for awhile. I do that with Europas...not so much with other books.
Hope you were able to cath up on your rest today! I love holiday book swaps and plan on picking up some gifts on Black Friday. Had a great day chilling with an old friend I haven't seen in awhile! Love Sundays....they would be perfect if only they weren't followed by Mondays. ;)
Have a great week!
I think Margot Livesey has not gotten her due in the book world. She is a wonderful writer who quietly publishes brilliant books. She's great at making the ordinary sinister.
Europa Swap is a great idea! Hope you had a day of relaxation - and got some sleep!
Relaxing can be totally elusive, can't it? The weekends seems to slip away in household/family duties: cleaning and cooking and laundry to name a few. It's necessary to set apart time, to restore for the week to come. I hope you feel you had that!
I hope you ended enjoying a lazy Sunday, filled with plenty of reading.
