Sunday Salon

Sunday, Sunday...

It's Memorial Day weekend and it's been pretty quiet around here. I've been more or less sidelined with seasonal allergies, which is great for reading but bad for anything else!

Yesterday my husband and I attempted to go to Anime Boston, a huge anime and manga convention, but without having pre-registered. BIG MISTAKE. The line was about 2 hours long to get in without a pre-registration. Considering we only went to go to the vendor area, we decided to bail. We were there to see a specific artist, Bettina Kurkoski, author of the English-language manga series My Cat Loki. My Cat Loki was a projected 3-volume series that was cancelled after volume 2, but Ms. Kurkoski had said on her blog that she might have an abbreviated version of volume 3 for sale at cons- and there's no bigger con than Anime Boston, and she's there. But between allergies and a foot injury I was not prepared to stand in line for that long, especially not without more assurances that I would get what I came for.

Disappointing, but what can you do? My Cat Loki was the first manga series I read, and it's really adorable. I would love to know how it ends but I may have to just find a way to go on living without that closure.

We're not trying again today! Today I'm going to the gym, and my husband is going to his writing group, and I'm going to spend some quality time with my current reads- The Children's Book and American Eve. I'm also going to go through my LibraryThing account and pull out some books I've tagged "summer reading"- since it's Memorial Day weekend, it's time!

What are you looking forward to this summer? Click here to find out what other Saloners are up to today!

I'm trying to come up with my summer reading schedule. I'd initially planned to read the Texas Bluebonnets this summer, but I couldn't help myself and jumped in last week!

Now what am I to do?

Sounds like yesterday was quite a disappointment! Hope you enjoy your reading
today!

Wow, that's a long wait! I probably wouldn't have stayed either, not without being sure I'd be able to find the book.

Enjoy The Children's Book :D

How impressive that you're going to the gym with allergies AND a foot injury! I was thinking yesterday, that even if we were rich and had a gym built right into the house somewhere, I STILL would be too lazy to go there!

Aw, I'm sorry you didn't end up able to go to the convention. Wondre if you could order Volume 3 directly from the creator?

Shame about the Anime Convention! I actually have a friend who was planning on going, I hope he preregistered! I hope you have a good day today!

I hate allergies. Mine have hit me hard this season too. I hope your foot is feeling better soon too!

I'm sorry the Anime Boston event didn't work out for you. Maybe Ms. Kurkoski will find another way to get the abbreviated volume 3 out to the fans who couldn't get to the event. Fingers crossed, at least.

I hope you have a great week, Marie.

We're having a quiet weekend. I made a short trip Thursday and came back Friday and traffic was insane on Friday so I think it's a busy weekend for lots of other people.

Hi Marie...
Sorry about yesterday and your allergies. Hope you feel better soon.
My plans for the summer are a grad course in Civil War history with a trip to Gettysburg, working in my garden, SUMMER READING and then finishing the summer with a grad course in World War II history.

THat is disappointing about not getting in to see the vendors-that is the best part! This summer I want to get my books organized & get rid of all my TBR piles that I have all over my house!!!

Sounds fun, but that line would have driven me crazy. Nope not for me, but still would have been worth it perhaps

I envy you that copy of the new Byatt. Waiting on mine from Book Depository and every time I read about someone else loving it, I go check my shipping status. Pathetic but true. Happy reading!

Oh wow, when we were very first married (which is a long time ago) we had an amazing cat called Loki - he was so cute. I have to find this series!
