Friday Finds!

Not a lot of new books this week. The two I'm most excited about are Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman, which I've had my eye on for a long time, and Samarkand by Amin Maalouf, which I mentioned the other day when I talked about my book club.
I also picked up What My Lips Have Kissed: The Loves and Love Poems of Edna St. Vincent Millay. She has always been one of my favorites and I'm looking forward to reading this intriguing book.

That's it!

I hope everyone has a great Friday.

What are you reading today?

I have The Diagnosis by Alan Lightman, but I haven't read it yet. I also have another biography of Edna St. Vincent Millay, Savage Beauty, which I started reading but then abandoned. I must say the one you have sounds intriguing.

well, my September Early Reviewers copy of Playing Dead by Allison Brennan just arrived at the door via the Man in Brown.

So, I think it is a sign and I best start it right this minute!

I read Einstein's Dreams years and years ago and it is a lovely little book. Now you have me wanting to reread it.

Alan Lightman is pretty interesting, in that Einstein's Dreams was a brilliant little book, but he just went downhill from there. Good Benito was pretty good, and then Reunion was dismal. I read The Diagnosis twice, the second time because I'd forgotten I'd already read it.

Ghost, his new book, was on the good side of okay. But I've mourned that not all his books are as breathtakingly amazing as Einstein's Dreams.

Those sound like great books. I'll have to check into Einstein's Dreams.

I've read Daniel Epstein's book (it has such a great title!) I just brought home White Heat, by Brenda Wineapple, about the friendship between Emily Dickinson and Thomas Higginson, and Can You Ever Forgive Me: Memoirs of a Literary Forger, by Lee Israel.(I haven't read anything by Alan Lightman yet, but I should!)

Just the name "Einstein's Dreams" sounds interesting to me.

I went to a dog show and in between the judging sessions (labradors, so cute) I was reading Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I cannot put it down!

I recently acquired The Diagnosis by Alan Lightman but haven't had a chance to read it yet. And I have both the Sonnets and Collected Poems of Millay. I love her work, I have since I was a girl.
Since you asked I have posted a link to my poetry in my sidebar. Just click on the Japanese garden doorway under the caption A Time For Haiku.

I love Einstein's Dreams. I've been reading it to my grade 12 physics classes for the past 10 years, a little chapter a day.
I run into students from ages ago, and they remember, You read us that book!
