Musing Mondays

What do you use to mark your place while reading? Do you have a definite preference? Do you use bookmarks, paper, or (gasp) turn down the pages? If you use bookmarks, do you have a favourite one?

I dog-ear my pages and sometimes use bookmarks. If I use a bookmark it's usually something from the bookstore or something that was included with a galley or a review copy. If I'm reading a hardcover I'll sometimes use the dust jacket to mark my page.

I can't bring myself to write in books or fold over corners, but I am also not organized enough to always have a real bookmark handy. So I end up using whatever is lying around!

I use old hotel key cards...I have no idea why. I think I started this on vacation at some point, and it stuck. :)

I love bookmarks and have oodles of them, so I'm a bookmark kind of gal.

Bookmarks. If I don't have one handy, I'll use a piece of paper, but I NEVER dog-ear a book. I will have to say that as a librarian, the worst bookmark I've come across is a banana peel. We were inventorying and weeding the reference collection one day, and I came across that book with the now very decayed banana peel. I just about got sick!

I've been using a bookmark that a friend of mine just gave me. It looks like an oriental rug.

I've always used whatever is nearby, whether it's key cards, bookmarks, slips of paper, the dust cover, boarding passes (often), nothing, pens, or even just junk (I've used food, but never the kind that would decay in the book... and no bananas). I only dog-ear very old library books that are already so bent and maimed that one more won't actually make a difference. Weird. I've never thought of this before...
