Shades of Grey, Jasper Fforde's new one, came for review from the publisher. I'm really looking forward to this; early reviews on LibraryThing indicate that it's more sophisticated and serious than his earlier books, but a quick glance also tells me it's not missing his trademark dry wit. So it should be great!
One of my best girlfriends sent me a signed hardcover of Paul Auster's latest, Invisible. Jean and I became big fans of his when we were in college and read The New York Trilogy; for a long time I had a poster from the reading he did for it at MIT hanging in my bedroom. I'm behind on his books these days though and really, really need to catch up.
I don't know about you, but I feel like with all the great books coming out and all the older classics I want to read, I'll never catch up- but that won't stop me from trying!
I hope everyone has a great weekend and gets to spend some time lost in your TBR piles!

You did get some great books and it sounds like Jean is a great friend!
The Auster book caught my eye, too. He's another author I keep meaning to read...
I actually did! My husband got the kids up while I pretended to be asleep, and then I managed to actually finish a book. I'm so excited. Mary McCarthy's The Group, which I wholeheartedly recommend. It was very funny.
Oh I did not know he had a new book out :) I do like Fforde
I can't say I am familiar with either author (how poorly read does that make me sound every time I say it) but they both sound like books I need to check them out.
I've decided "catching up" is the impossible dream, because something new will always come along :-). I'm just trying not to buried!
And I have to tell you that I'm totally envious you scored a review copy of Shades of Grey :-). I think my husband and I will be dueling over who gets to read that first - we're both big Jasper Fforde fans.
You've got Shades of Grey? *so jealous!*
I haven't read anything by either Fforde or Auster, but I'm curious about both authors, so I look forward to reading your thoughts on the books.
The Auster book looks interesting. I'll have to keep an eye out.

These look great! I love book friends.
I am also holding a copy of the new Auster, waiting for the right time to start. But alas, mine is not signed. That is some great friend. Every new Auster is a treat to me but signed is something special.
I am *green* with envy because you have a Fforde advance. I hope you like it (and I hope it's good, he's one of my favorites).
I read about Invisible (somewhere??) and put it on my list, but I've never read anything by this author before. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
Nice! I didn't know Fforde had a new one out...
I bought the new Paul Auster book recently...am an avid fan of his work.
I look forward to hearing about the Fforde!

So glad to hear that you got a copy of Shades of Grey, and I will be interested in hearing what you think of it. That's one book I can't wait to get my hands on!
I love Auster's books too. I read The Music of Chance first then the New York Trilogy years ago. I just finished Invisible and it's up to his usual high standard. I look forward to your thoughts on it.
