Sunday Salon - Happy Valentine's Day!
Happy Valentine's Day!
The other day I was reading a post at Alayne's great blog, The Crowded Leaf, about her favorite romantic fiction; I don't really read romance novels per se, but some of my favorite romantic literary fiction includes
Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte, the quintessential Gothic romance,
Gone with the Wind, by Margaret Mitchell, because- does it really get any better than Scarlett and Rhett?
A Very Long Engagement, by Sebastian Japrisot, a sweet and passionate love story set in the post-World War I France about a young woman searching for her missing fiancé, and of course,
Possession, by A.S. Byatt, about two pairs of literary lovers- one in the present and one in the past.
What are your favorite romantic reads?
My husband and I will have a nice dinner at home this evening capped by some homemade crème brulées; I hope you have a great Valentine's Day whatever your plans are!

those are great romantic reads. I would include The English Patient on my romantic reads list. Happy Valentine's Day.
I love Sebastian Japrisot! A Very Long Engagement is great, but my favorite is Trap for Cinderella.
Happy Valentine's Day :D
Am reading a love story of sorts, or rather listening to the audio book - Water for Elephants. suspenseful. Enjoy your Valentine dinner!

Happy Valentine's Day!
My favorite romantic read is The Time Traveler's Wife. I think Clare and Henry are my favorite literary couple. Also Rob and Renee in Love Is a Mix Tape are a close second. They were a real couple too, which makes it even better!
I'm with you on Gone With the Wind. Happy Valentine's Day!
I'm not a romance reader at all but the most romantic book I have read lately is The Time Traveler's Wife. It just gets my heart beating thinking of the story! Enjoy your day!
Oh, A Very Long Engagement was so marvelous. I never liked any of Japrisot's other novels as much, sadly. Maybe I should give a few more a try.
Happy Valentine's Day! Homemade creme brulee sounds amazing!
Have a wonderful Valentine's Day! Your plans sound lovely. Enjoy!
YUM! Creme Brulee! Did they turn out perfect? Hope so.
Happy (belated) Valentine's day to you. We stayed in for dinner since all the restaurants here are packed for V-Day and Chinese New Year. We read our cards to each other and went out just for cocktails. A Very Long Engagement is one book I have meant to read for a very long time!
I agree with you--it really doesn't get much better than Scarlett and Rhett!
Jane Eyre is my all time favorite.
Possession ranks number 2.
The Earth and Sky of Jacques Dorme, by Andrei Makine
The Luncheon of the Boating Party, by Susan Vreeland
All Our Worldly Goods, by Irene Nemirovsky
Water for Elephants IS a very romantic book, although I don't tend to think of it that way.
Glad you two had a nice Valentines. Jane Eyre and Gone With the Wind are two of my most favorites!
Possession is indeed a very romantic read, but I am at a loss to come up with a favorite, as it has been such a long time since I have read anything remotely romantic! I hope you had a very wonderful Valentine's Day and that you enjoyed your time with your sweetie!
I hope you had a great holiday. Mine was mindless and relaxing...we cooked together and watched the olympics.
Possession is a really great romance, one I even like the movie-version of.
Alayne - The Crowded Leaf.
