I'm still working through To the End of the Land, by David Grossman, a wonderful book that's just a very leisurely read. I got a bunch of new books under the tree; I'll have a full report on Friday but among the treasures were signed first editions of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale and Negotiating with the Dead: A Writer on Writing, and a first edition (not signed) of Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's. I'm going to find a special place for each.
The holiday itself was pretty laid-back. Jeff and I opened presents at home in the morning and then headed out to his parents' house nearby for the day. It was a small crowd but a nice party capped with a spectacular dinner cooked by my mother-in-law. Now it's time to get to that relaxing thing.

I received my *first ever* first edition this Christmas, making me special, too, I guess.
I also wanted to thank you, Marie, for your post a while back about the fabulous Moleskine Book Journal. I gave one to my daughter, and she was eagerly filling it up last night having agonized over the "alpha by author or title?" decision and come out in favor of "title" (I would have chosen "author," but never mind ...)
I gave another one as a Secret Santa gift, and it also went over well. So thanks, because without your post I might never have learned of this particular objet d'art!

Laura, yay! I'm so glad to hear the journals were a success! the best gift i gave was a moleskine book journal, which i filled with bookish recommendations for a family member. there's so much you can do with them!
Sounds *blissful*! I wish I were curling up all day to read, since I woke up with a killer sore throat. Instead I am braving this incipient snowstorm to see some much-missed friends from high school. (At least there are compensations built in to that sacrifice on my part, eh?)

Ahh, to relax. I'm jealous of you today! My son is crying upstairs and won't take a nap. My husband and I were hoping for a few minutes of relxation. Oh well!

Boxing day was special for me as its my first here in Melbourne. We hit the sales!!!! I enjoyed it.
I received a book journal also! From my very cool 12 year old daughter who figured it out all on her own when I said something about having a hard time finding one. Great kid!

Oh wow! It sounds like Santa was very good to you this year, Marie! I am glad you had such a nice Christmas and that it was fairly low-key. I am also going to be reading a lot this week, as I was gifted with a couple of really great reads as well, and I can't wait to get started with them!!
