Sunday Salon- New Cat Edition

So yesterday my husband Jeff and I went to the airport and picked up the newest members of our family, Tanya and Pandora. They are littermates, 2 year old Siberian females who are retired breeding cats. They flew in all the way from Montana yesterday; as of this writing they are hiding under a chair in our living room. If I lie down on my stomach I can just see Tanya's paw.

Now, I know everyone wants to see pictures. Sadly I haven't been able to get a good enough look at them since we got them home so the best I can do is share this photo of Tanya taken by her original owner:
Tanya is the mother cat in this photo; the kitten is not Pandora; it's a kitten of Tanya's. They were supposed to have arrived on Friday but they had a little mishap on the way to the airport and missed their flight, but they arrived safe and sound Saturday evening. Now they're home!!!

Reading? Yeah, I'm doing that. Since the cats are still acclimating, I have plenty of time to read today. I'm working on Penelope Lively's Moon Tiger, a Booker Prize winner, and The Oracle of Stamboul, by Michael David Lukas, a historical-fiction 2011 release that appealed to me about a young girl who becomes an advisor to the Sultan. I'm enjoying both very much, but the Lively is extraordinary. It's about a dying historian reflecting on her great love, as well as her tangled family and friends. It's so beautifully written and just amazes me every time I turn the page.

I'm going to go back to staring under my chair now and talk to my cats some more. What are you up to today? I heard there's some sporting event on today. *Shakes head.* Have a great Sunday!

More Sunday Salon here.

So exciting for your new cats! I'm sure they'll acclimate quickly.

I've got The Oracle of Stamboul and am excited to read that one. I've got The Fifth Servant that I'm reading and need to post this Thursday, but I'm only on page 45 right now. *stressed*

So excited for you that your new cats arrived safe and sound! And I've spent time lying on my stomach before, talking to a frightened cat under the couch, reassuring them that they would be happy here.

Yeah, I heard that rumor that there was some sort of sporting event today...have fun!

Aww, what a striking, beautiful cat! She looks so soft. I hope the new kitties get acclimated soon.

I'll be interested to hear what you think of The Oracle of Stamboul. I started reading it and just couldn't get into it.

Pretty kitties. Hope they'll enjoy their new home.

Besides maybe paying a little attention to that sporting event, I plan on finishing up The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich, since it's not a long book and I need to finish a book. So I guess this one will do. ;)

I'm so glad that your new cats are safely home, especially after their little adventure a few days ago.

I'm nursing a bit of a cold so I'll be taking it easy today, reading and watching that little sporting event.

I am glad to hear that your new kitties have arrives safely, even if they are hiding right now! I also wanted to tell you I just read the most amazing book, and I though if you the whole time I was reading it. It's called The Fifth Servant, and it deals extensively with Judiasm in Prague. It was so, so good, and if you haven't heard of it yet, it's definitely one you must read!

Dur, sorry to have spelled Judisam wrong!

Congrats on the new additions to your household. It is hard to believe that people with allergies are not bothered with cats with such long hair --although I do realize that it's the dander that is the issue.

Hope they brings load of happiness to you.

The smarter a cat is, the longer it can take her to get used to a new place. I wish you enough patience!

Cute picture! I hope they're more adjusted now. I got your comment on my review of Alice Hoffman's Red Garden. I am SHOCKED that you haven't read her yet! She seems right up your alley. Give her a shot sometime, I think you'll definitely enjoy her writing. :)
