Sunday Salon- Time to Rest!

Ahhhhhh, rest. Today I'm putting my feet up and taking it easy, as much as possible. Oh sure, I have the usual Sunday grocery shopping to do, and Jeff and I might hit a local antiquarian book fair. But really? All I want to do today is relax. And whatever happens today, tomorrow I'm staying in bed until lunchtime!

I've been reading so, so slowly lately. I'm still working on Big Machine but I hope to finish today. After that I really want to start The Girl in the Polka Dot Dress, by Beryl Bainbridge, for my first Europa Editions book this month. Then I want to start How Green Was My Valley, by Richard Llewellyn. And the graphic novel of The Kite Runner. And... and... and I love working in a bookstore.

This week I finished the manga biography of Gandhi recently published by Penguin as part of their new series; Che Guevara is next and I'm really enjoying this series so far. I can't wait for an opportunity to sell these books at the store. The Gandhi book was a great introduction to the life of this extraordinary person. Che was a really different person and I'm looking forward to seeing how the book handles his life story. The desk where I spend much of my day is in the middle of the graphic novel/manga section of the store, so I'm always coveting all the pretties that come through. I have a pile growing to the side! I'm progressing painfully slowly through Revolution. The hardest part of the job is playing catchup on young adult and kids' books; I'm trying to add more to my reading but it's a slow process.

Well, I'm off to sip more tea and yawn. What are you up to today? I hope you have a great Sunday!
More Sunday Salon here.

You're so lucky to be working in a bookstore! And of course they are so lucky to have a book-knowledgeable person there!

I'm envious! The average Barnes and Noble has crap when it comes to graphic novels. Our library is better, but not great either. I'd go nuts if I sat there and looked at them all day. I'm saddened that Revolution is painful for you. I loved that book. Perhaps the audio is the better way to go with it.

I picked up a collection of Beryl Bainbridge's books a few months ago, and have been curious about how they were, so I will be interested in hearing what you think of the one that you chose. It must be so amazing to work in a bookstore, but I can imagine that I would probably have to be repeatedly told to stop browsing over and over again!

I wish I had the time to relax today, but I don't think it's going to happen. Enjoy your day - you deserve it!

You are going to love How Green Was My Valley. After your done you should watch the movie, it's so old it's in black and white. It is wonderful also!

I think you told me you had started Revolution, but I had forgotten. I just started listening to it on audio and am enjoying it. But there are so many other YA books I could foist on you!

Feeling lazy and relaxed just reading this. :) The Girl in the Polka Dot Dress is on my short list too but the Europa that occupies me now is Cooking with Fernet Branca which has me laughing out loud. Love it. Hope he can sustain this through second half of book. Happy reading!

Yesterday was my relaxation day, so today I'm planning on writing reviews, then get some work done. Hit the grocery store this morning and stopped by to pick up new glasses. I'm exhausted already, and the day's only half over!

So glad you're still enjoying the bookstore! Have a great week!

Have a great Sunday, relaxing with your book. :-)

I forgot to ask: have you added Brian Selnick and his books to your tbr list? Since you're trying to catch up and read children's books, his works are short and very entertaining.

Glad to hear that you are still enjoying your job at the bookstore. There is definitely something to be said for having a day to do nothing!
