It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

First of all thank you to the people who left such sweet comments on my blogiversary post. This is not a passive-aggressive way of asking for more a la Facebook birthdays. It really made my day, the things folks said. So thanks.

It's been a good week of reading. I didn't make it to the gym so I'm still stalled on the San Francisco-earthquake book but I did finish Out, which was a terrific dark, bleak book- although I did feel let down at the very very end with how the author chose to leave the main character. That aside, highly recommended for the dark-and-gritty-crime reader.

I finally did find my Patrick Melrose omnibus so I'm working my way through the first novel, Never Mind, about a day in the miserable life of the Melrose family and its hangers on. I read it before, a long time ago, but I forgot that part about the child rape. Huh.

I decided to put aside Prague Winter; I want to hear Albright's story but I feel like it would work better for me on audio so I'm going to look into that for the future. In the mean time I'm reading Icelandic comedian Jón Gnarr's memoir, Gnarr! How I Became the Mayor of a Large City in Iceland and Changed the World. The writing is just so-so but it's entertaining. I read and enjoyed Gnarr's novel/roman à clef about his childhood, The Pirate, so this is a fun follow-up.

And in audioland I started I'll Be Gone in the Dark, Michelle McNamara's true-crime tale of the elusive Golden State Killer. The book actually helped lead to his arrest earlier this year. It's pretty amazing so far.

Finally I am still reading A Whistling Woman, by A.S. Byatt, last in the Frederica Potter series. I wish this book were more about Frederica and less about a host of weird new characters, but it's still a great read as all Byatt's books are.

What are you reading this week?

I'm still plugging away at The Art of Fielding. I like it, but I just don't feel like reading it. Sleep is winning out!
