Hunters in the Dark, by Lawrence Osborne, is set in Cambodia and cycles through the perspectives of three characters- Englishman Robert, American Simon and Khmer Sophal and explores love, lust, greed, identity and colonialism. It's characteristically rich in setting and tone- Osborne is a former travel writer and all of his books have deep and detailed settings that immerse the reader in a location.
Jacob's Ladder is a family epic by one of my favorite writers, Ludmila Ulitskaya. It's on the lighter side for her books but any book by Ulitskaya is going to be better than most books by anyone else.
If you are curious about either of these writers, you will find several reviews of books by each in my "Reviews by Author" tab.
