What I'm Reading This Week

Still working on Catherine the Great and The Rivals, but I finished More Than I Love My Life and started Recitatif: A Story, by Toni Morrison.

I keep a pile of "short books" on my nightstand; sometimes it's nice, after I finish something long or emotionally draining, to have a relatively quick read. Short books can be emotionally devastating too and Morrison's is a complex tale about two girls in a shelter who become friends. The gimmick of the book is that Morrison won't tell us their race; the book has an introduction by Zadie Smith outlining Morrison's formal choices and giving some insight into her process. I should finish it tonight.

I'll be working on Catherine and The Rivals for a while though!
