Sunday Salon: It's Been a Slog of a Reading Year

I realized yesterday I am more than 3/4 of the way through the year and I haven't even reached 50 books read. I have three books on my nightstand I have been picking my way through for weeks. My reading pace is so uncharacteristically slow!

I have had stuff going on, my concentration is basically shot and piano and language practice take up what brain space I have, which doesn't say much honestly. I haven't even been doing much sewing. You'd think being unemployed I'd have all the time in the world and all the opportunity but it hasn't really worked out that way so far. I volunteer two

days per week and have commitments on most of the other days, and some of my volunteer work is social media and I do a little every day. When I curl up with my books at night, I get through a couple of short chapters and then hit the hay.

Depressing!

I am at least enjoying what I'm reading but it's frustrating to see such slow progress. I won't have a post for "It's Monday, What Are You Reading?" when it's the same books as last week and the week before.

I was doing some tidying up on Friday and found a huge stack of promotional bookmarks from a conference swag bag and decided from now on every book I put in the local Little Free Libraries will get its own bookmark, including any books I send to my friend in Massachusetts for the LFLs she supports. At least they won't go to waste or just get recycled. It'll be a while before I have more than one or two books to go out though. The LFLs in my town are very active; I've both given and received some good things. People in Hoboken like to swap books!

On the upside, yesterday I picked up my first pair of prescription sunglasses which means two things:

  1. I am officially an Old Person, and
  2. I can read outside!

I am happy about #2 and anyway I've known about #1for a while. I did get out to some fun bookstores yesterday and added some things to my TBR pile including a very cool modern first I'll tell you about later in the week.

Happy Sunday!
