Sunday Salon

Two big things came to my attention this week: the Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to French author Annie Ernaux, none of whose books I have read, and favorite author Abraham Verghese will have a new book out next year, The Covenant of Water, and I am dying to get an early copy. Right now the pub date is listed as May, 2023, and I will simply die if I have to wait that long. The Booker Prize winner for 2022 will be announced on October 17, a week from this coming Monday. Do you have a favorite?

It's been a good week. My husband and I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary with a nice dinner. He gave me a set of Studio Ghibli jazz vinyl albums- fun! I got him a rare Douglas Adams book he didn't even know about. We are also planning a Disney trip for next year, to celebrate both of us turning 50 and our 20th anniversary. He turns 50 later this month; I go in February and our Disney World trip will be around then. So there is some time to plan. I do have our dining plans sketched out already and I'm working on outfits because I am extra like that.

The weather here finally cleared up after a lot of rain. But now it's really fall weather and I have to put my summer dresses away. Time for leaf peeping and pumpkins!

I finished two books this week, Birthday by César Aira, and Dark Tide: The Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919, by Stephen Puleo. I'll have something up on the Aira book soon. I really should not wait on my Airas. They are too good. I have at least five books of his I haven't read yet. That is wrong! So I have to pick a new fiction and a new nonfiction read ASAP.

What are you up to today? I hope you have a great Sunday.

I am happy to find Annie Ernaux books on Hoopla at my library. Now I just need to figure out what book I should try first.

I knew Abraham Verghese had a book coming out in 2023 because he's in the lineup for the 2022-23 Inprint reading series here in Houston. I'm looking forward to my first time hearing him speak.
