It's Monday, What Are You Reading? Jewish Book Month Edition

I started reading Lucette Lagnado's The Man in the White Sharkskin Suit: A Jewish Family's Exodus from Old Cairo to the New World last week, about the history of her family's origin in and emigration from Egypt during World War 2.

I've always been curious about this story because I don't know much about Egyptian Jews and because the book has been heavily lauded, winning the Sami Rohr Prize for Jewish Literature- always an indication of a good read.

I'm enjoying it so far! She starts with the mythologized view of her parents' relationship and then gets into the more real story. Her writing is very good, engaging and bright. The book is peppered with lots of photos and details that bring her family's story to life.

I picked up my copy at the used bookstore where I volunteer.
