I've been on Twitter since 2008 and it was a big part of my life- it still is. I was off and on for a while but for the past couple of years I've been pretty active, adding new follows and followers, tweeting regularly. I've been more active since restarting my blog. In the past week it's been a trash fire over there; there are plenty of news stories to tell you what's been going on in the company but what I've seen on the site is basically a lot of people who are very anxious, who are grateful for the communities they've been a part of and figuring out what to do next, if anything. Lots of us will migrate to other services like Mastodon; lots of us will invest in other platforms like Instagram where we currently have followings and many will back away from real-time social media apps entirely.
I don't know which way I'll go.
I'm still on Twitter and plan to stay until the site collapses or becomes unbearable. Every day I feel like deleting my account but know I'll regret that. I opened a Mastodon account and I'm liking the more chilled-out feeling there but I wonder if I'm too random or messy or weird for that crowd. But as more and more of my Twitter peeps come over I'm finding my way there too.
I've tried to shore up some relationships by following folks on Insta and Facebook; I think that's a positive. I'm also losing Twitter followers by the day and know that the community is slowly breaking apart. There's not much to be done about that. But I'm already finding new friends and a new community. And whatever happens I'll keep blogging.
It surprised me how lousy I felt about everything though. I was so depressed on Friday I didn't even practice piano! It feels like the end of an era even if the site is still up and running. I hope it works out for the best.

How are you liking Mastodon? I couldn’t really figure it out. I have been kind of anti social media after becoming a big fan of Cal Newports podcast and books. I still have them but usually just share anything new I make. Perhaps my lack of interaction is the reason I struggle to gain a following.
I like Mastodon. it's more chilled out than Twitter. I get not being into these things though. I like the back and forth you can get, meeting new people. I met a lot of great people who became real friends on Twitter and I'll give Mastodon a try for now.
