It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

Well I have finally finished The Covenant of Water (amazing!) and I can start a new novel. I chose Tampa, by Alissa Nutting, which I picked up on Nantucket back in November. It's great. It's very explicit and it's definitely not going to be for everyone; it's about a 20-something middle school teacher trying to lure a 14 year old boy into a sexual affair. Kind of like a lady's Lolita with way way more explicit sex. It's actually kind of over the top and hilarious in a horror-show kind of way. Very audacious.

On the nonfiction front I have something much less controversial, a book about the history of unicorn legend. Odell Shepard's The Lore of the Unicorn was originally published in 1930 and reissued by Dover fairly recently.  It's kind of dry and academic but interesting and it's keeping me reading. It's been kind of fascinating to learn about how the imagery has been used, where it might have come from and what it all might mean.

I've been meaning to do a re-read of Peter S. Beagle's wonderful The Last Unicorn and this might be a nice gateway into that!
