It comes out in May and right now I'm seeing Bronsky's trademark careful prose, attention to character detail and irony. It's about a retired couple in modern day Germany; the wife, Barbara, suffers a fall and becomes disabled. Her husband has to cope for the first time, doing everything he always took for granted and left to her. In doing so their relationship transforms.
In the nonfiction realm I switched gears after finishing Jersey Breaks early last week. I'm reading Roberto Saviano's true-crime reportage classic Gomorrah: A Personal Journey into the Violent International Empire of Naples' Organized Crime System. The title gives you an idea. The first chapter is about container shipping in the Bay of Naples and goes deeper into the underworld from there. It's pretty gruesome and depressing but also fascinating. There was a TV series made of it and I tried to watch it at one point but it was kind of boring honestly. This is better.
