Sunday Salon

Today is going to be one of those varied days!

Yesterday was pretty laid back; the big event was going to see my friend John perform in a community theater production of "You Can't Take it With You"- it was a good time. He played Kalenkhov, a bombastic Russian dance instructor. John is a great physical comedian and did a terrific job- by far the most entertaining member of a very good cast.

The morning started with a visit to the ER- my cat scratched me up good the other day, and the scratches got infected. So now I'm on antibiotics for a week and have to see my regular doctor tomorrow. In the mean time, I'm working today, and my husband is off to his writing group. Yesterday I splurged on some graphic novels at my favorite comics shop, so I'll be reading those as well.

I'm done reading Justin Cronin's The Passage, and my giveaway is still open till midnight if you want to enter. Just click on the book cover on the left-hand side of this page. I might do an early review this week; it's going to be a bit tricky to review because so much of the pleasure of it is the unfolding of events. It's such a great read though. And it's going to be huge this summer. Now I'm reading The Girl in the Tangerine Scarf, this month's book club pick, about a young girl growing up Muslim in 1970s Indiana. It's not exactly what I'd call literary but it's a decent read and I think the discussion will be a good one. I like it because it's contemporary, and I find the more contemporary Muslim books more engaging than some of the older historical fiction.

I'm actually flipping between about four books right now but I'm going to spend today's reading time trying to finish one!

What are you up to today?

Take care of those scratches! Been there before with a insane (but loved) cat I used to have that used to hide behind corners and then literally jump on you and attach as you walked by.

Book club selections. You seem cool with it here but I commented over at Nymeth's this morning that those books tend to be the most disliked books I read. And I really want to like them. Be a good member of the group. Maybe I just have bad luck?

Happy reading!

I know about flipping between books! I had a cat once that scratched. I ended up giving it away and got a dog! But I know they are easier to take care of, in general.

I'm currently flipping between multiple books too, which is very unusual for me. And ouch on the cat scratches; that just sounds super painful. My Sunday Salon

Book Dilettante- my cat is really sweet and didn't mean to scratch me; I was giving him some medicine and he put out his back claws and backed off my lap. I forgive him, but let's just say I'm keeping my distance right now, LOL :-)

Ouch! Take care of those scratches!

I flipped through books for quite so time this past month before finally settling on my current read. I'm almost done with it so I'm sure I'll be back to flipping between books again.

Sorry about the trip to the ER - hope the antibiotics clear up the infection. I'm rereading Mrs. Dalloway today, but hope to squeeze in a visit to B&N, too.

Sorry to hear about the scratches getting infected. I've been lucky and haven't had any infections yet, just been bloodied a few times. Yet we still love our kitties! :)

I have to admit I have been checking your blog obsessively to see if you'd posted your PASSAGE review yet! Very excited :)

Poor Marie! Cat Scratch Fever, der-dum-dum *badly singing Ted Nugent to you* :-D

I'm one away from clearing out my reader, that's what I've been up to all day... lol. After that, it's laundry and LOST... and the chillins will be wanting some dinner sometime, too.

Glad to hear you had such a fine time at the performance, but sorry to hear that you are all scratched up! I hope you are feeling well again soon.
