My Best Books of 2011 So Far includes books published this year and some older things:
- Hotel du Lac, by Anita Brookner, winner of the Booker Prize in 1984,
- Hygiene and the Assassin, by Amélie Nothomb,
- The Outside Boy, by Jeanine Cummins, which I was lucky enough to get in a swag bag at last year's Book Blogger Con,
- Drinking at the Movies, by Julia Wertz, a great graphic novel,
- Troubles, by J.G. Farrell, winner of the Lost Man Booker from 1971.
As far as what's being promoted at BEA, I'd love to get my hands on a copy of The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern, and We the Animals by Justin Torres, and I'm sure anything on offer from Other Press and Europa Editions will be great. Then, later this year favorite authors of mine Roland Merullo and Michael Ondaatje have new books, too.

From your list I have only read the Anita Brookner one which I liked very much. It was a strange book for me but I liked it!
Ooh all new ones to me, will have to check some out. Thanks for sharing :)
You always have such SMART reads! I am off to the library to see if that have that graphic novel...
Most of these are new to me- will have to check them out - thanks for the recommendations
That is a fantastic list! I'm always looking out for good graphic novels, so I'll be keeping an eye out for Drinking in the Movies.
I am sad to say I haven't ready ANY on your list! I am going to have to check them out. Thanks for sharing!
Interesting set. I'd like to read more Booker Prize books like Hotel du Lac.
Okay, trying again! I am excited to check out some of the ones on your list....especially the Brookner book.
Here's MY ARMCHAIR POST
Out of all the ones you mentioned, the graphic novel looks the most intriguing to me, and not just because it's about two of my favorite pasttimes: drinking and movies. ;)
Great choices! I read my first Brookner book, Fraud, earlier this year and really enjoyed it. She's excellent at portraying the complexities and vulnerabilities of women. Hotel du Lac will probably be the next one of hers I try. Good to know you enjoyed it!
I have never heard of any of the novels on your list. But the titles sound interesting. I will have to google and see what they are about. Thanks for the list. Happy BEA Week!
I have the Outside Boy on my TBR. Sounds like I should bump it up!
My Best of 2011 List
I feel like I must be stuck in my H-F genre bubble. I have not heard of any of these. Bad me.
I have The Outside Boy from last year's BEA but I still haven't read it! So many books, so little time!
I also have a copy of The Outside Boy on my shelves, and am looking forward to reading it. You have a lot of great books on that list!
I haven't heard of those books until now. I'll have to check them out.
I'm pretty sure I read Hotel Du Lac before I started book blogging. I need to go back and re-read it.
In 2009 I decided to step away reviewing for publishers and publicists. I felt like I was losing my focus and drifting from my mission statement of sharing the joys of reading. Call it taking a librarian's approach to blogging. Come see what I mean.
Interesting selection, most new to me.
My post is here with giveaway.
