Sunday Salon : Resources I Want to Shout Out

So you know I love to talk about the movies I'm watching alongside the books- I've even made a sort-of weekly feature out of it. There's lots available to stream and lots of services that are subscription or pay-per-view-based- Hulu, Vudu, etc.

I wanted to take a minute to tell you about a great free service that has lots of movies not available elsewhere, including some Criterion titles and public-television titles- Kanopy. It's free with your public library card (mostly- I don't know that 100% of U.S. public libraries have access but many do). I discovered it myself while using an aggregator site called Reelgood.com, which helps me find where to stream the movies and TV I want to watch. And this week I finally got around to setting it up with my public library card, and getting the app on my Roku device. Huzzah! Check them out! (I'm not affiliated and it's free so there's nothing in it for me if you do.)

Another great resource, this time for audiobooks, is Libro.fm. Think of it as an alternative to the A-word that supports your local independent bookseller. The audiobooks are not free but you can choose from a membership or individual purchases. Again, I have no affiliate relationship, I just like using them. You sign up through their website and can affiliate or not with a local indie.

Finally my favorite places to buy books-Bookshop.org for new books and Biblio.com for used books. I am affiliate with Bookshop.org just FYI. It continually amazes me how many people shop the A-word because they don't know you can buy online from indies. Bookshop sources from Ingram, one of the largest distributors to the trade, and you can choose a particular bookshop to support with your purchase. Biblio.com sources from independent used and rare dealers and if a book is not in stock at Bookshop, it often will direct to you a Biblio vendor for a used or new copy. Prices can be extremely reasonable on Biblio.com for used books. For more collectible-type rare books, a great resource is ViaLibri.net.

I don't have a ton going on. No new books came in this week (I KNOW) and I'm still reading the same three as last week. Boring!! I went into Manhattan on Friday for a bookish exhibit and I'll have more to tell you later in the week. For now have a great Sunday and buy yourself some new-to-you books!
